If your child is enthusiastic about the game of soccer, and as a family you are ready to take his/her development to the next level, Odyssey will provide your child the highest level of training and support so your child can fulfill his/her goal of becoming the best possible player they can be in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere.
2. What Does Odyssey Offer that Other Clubs Do Not?
Odyssey is unique from other soccer clubs in many ways. Odyssey players are coached by professional soccer coaches who possess a great deal of passion and enthusiasm for the game. The programs offered by Odyssey surpass other soccer clubs, which includes Boys and Girls Teams, the Odyssey Development Academy and the Odyssey Goal Keeping Academy. Younger soccer players are also highly valued at Odyssey with programs such as the Junior Odyssey Development Academy and Odyssey’s Mini Kickers program. The Odyssey Difference is marked by training that is curriculum based, player centered focus and effectively taught for not only how to perform a skill, but also on why, where and when to execute that skill in game settings. Odyssey takes great pride in our biggest asset: our Odyssey players and their families.
3. Which Years are the Most Important Years of Player Development?
At What Age Should my Child Start Playing Club Soccer?
The ages of 14 and under are the most important years of technical development in a soccer player. It is for this reason that starting your child in club soccer is never too early. To find out if club soccer is right for your child, contact Odyssey and join in on a training session and experience the quality of training before you make a decision. Since it is never too early to start club soccer, and truly important to start the foundation of proper skills as early as possible, that is the reason why Odyssey has teams that start at the U8 (under 8) age group.
4. My Child is a Multi-Sport Athlete. Can they Play Other Sports?
At a young age, as athletes’ bodies are developing, it’s important to try other sports and cross train. With these younger ages, the commitment to club soccer needs to be foremost in the event of a conflict. As players get closer to high school age, it becomes increasingly difficult to play several sports and truly excel at soccer. High school athletes who are committed to their soccer future often make the decision that soccer is their sole sport.
5. What is Expected of Odyssey Players?
The foremost expectation of Odyssey players is for each player to have the desire and commitment to strive to achieve ones own individual best. At Odyssey, individual skill sets are just that, individual. Odyssey coaches realize that players develop at different rates and at different times. In order to achieve ones personal best, players are expected to attend and arrive on time for training and games in required gear, and have a soccer ball and water with them. Players are asked to take great pride in taking care of the Odyssey facility and always show respect for teammates, opponents and any place Odyssey attends.

Game schedules for indoor and outdoor leagues are posted 1-2 weeks in advance by the league. Outdoor games can include CNYJSA or NYSW Thruway League depending on the team. Indoor and outdoor tournaments are also often offered for teams, which can take place on weekends or sometimes during school breaks. Some events, depending on location, may require travel time. If your child is invited to join an Odyssey team and you accept the invitation, you are accepting to commit to the trainings, games and travel noted above. Participation in College Showcases are offered for our older teams.

Odyssey provides on a daily basis a committed and highly skilled staff for all players. With hard work and dedication, many Odyssey players have attained their goal of playing college soccer. 8. Does Odyssey Allow Players to Play Up?
First and foremost Odyssey is about proper player development. Odyssey follows the USSF age/development appropriate guidelines. USSF, otherwise known as US Soccer, emphasizes the importance and necessity of individual player development. Individual player development is best achieved when practicing and competing amongst soccer developmentally appropriate peers. When clubs participate in the often overused "no age boundaries approach," is not healthy for the player in the long run. Coaches determine player assignments to teams.

13. Are Cuts Made to Teams?
Club soccer is a competitive environment by nature. Once accepted onto a team, no player is cut during the season of play as long as the player is in good standing. At the end of each season, coaches and families take the opportunity to review individual player development, performance, and contribution to the team. It is those parameters that allow families and coaches to conclude whether or not it is beneficial for the player to continue with their existing Odyssey team. When a player is rostered onto an Odyssey team, the relationship between the player, family, coach, team and club is characteristically measured in years. The typical club player at Odyssey starts at about 9 years of age and plays for 7 or more years.
